Hypnotherapy in Central Manchester

Hypnotherapy utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. The process aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focusing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness - reached using skilled relaxation techniques - allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions.

What can Hypnotherapy offer?

Hypnotherapy is widely endorsed as a treatment for habit breaking, stress related issues and for a range of long-term conditions, and in recent years has been gaining steam in the medical world after a recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recognised hypnotherapy as a treatment. The NHS discuss Hypnotherapy as a treatment here

Many have found the process has been incredibly effective either when used in tandem with traditional treatment or when used independently after other avenues have been exhausted.

Hypnotherapy FAQ's

Is it safe?

Hypnotherapy is absolutely safe. You are always in control, and cannot be made to say or do anything you do not want to. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind, and therefore you can open your eyes, stand up, speak or leave at any point if you wanted to.

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy is relaxing, and uses techniques to quieten the conscious mind. Because of this, it is easier to focus on retrieving information or to accept suggestions made without the distraction of thoughts that are present in an every day conversation.

Does it work for everyone?

Anyone can go into Hypnosis, and people enter different levels of Hypnotic trance in every day situations such as being engrossed in a book, staring into space, being fixed in a long drive, or gazing out of the window. Therefore the therapy has the capacity to work for the everyone, but some are more susceptible than others. There are no special rules or a 'right way' to do it, but it helps if you are committed to the process and feel you can trust your therapist. It's also important to keep an open mind, as any scepticism may subconsciously dampen your susceptibility.

What does it feel like?

Hypnotherapy is generally a very pleasant and relaxing experience which is unique to everyone. It is possible to feel lightness, floating and drifting sensations, numbness, or tingling, while others may feel heavy and comfortable sinking. You may be able to see vivid colours, lights, shadows, or pictures, but it is also normal to see just darkness.

What happens if I can't relax?

My Hypnotherapy room in Central Manchester is extremely comfortable which is an additional benefit towards feeling at ease. As a Hypnotherapist, I am already skilled at helping people to relax and there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way for you to behave. Try not to worry as this may make you feel less relaxed. This is something you will be led into gently – and as a therapist, I am aware of your apprehensions

What happens if I fall asleep or don’t wake up?

The state of relaxation that you enter is not the same as sleeping – but some people do fall asleep because they are so relaxed, but this is nothing to worry about. You will be in a secure environment and I am aware of this possibility. You cannot get stuck in Hypnosis.

Will I do or say something stupid?

Many people associate hypnotherapy with what they have seen of ‘stage hypnosis’ where people may indeed be encouraged to do ‘silly’ things for the entertainment of an audience. Hypnotherapy is nothing like this – as an ethical practitioner, everything that happens during your therapy is completely confidential. However you cannot be made to do or say anything you do not want to. You are in a natural mind-state, and in control of your experience all of the way through. There is no 'magic' to it.

Client feedback

I saw Karen as I had a problem with stress while performing. I was a bit guarded and hesitant about the process but Karen explained everything about hypnosis and what to expect. I had no expectations about the therapy as frankly I was a bit dubious about hypnosis... How wrong was I... It felt like Karen took me on a journey to discover the hidden realms of my mind. Her voice was like a vehicle that transformed, discovered and healed. Plus, Karen has this amazing ability to put you at ease to talk about rather difficult aspects of your life. There was a link between my performance anxiety and my childhood experiences. I was shocked when Karen discovered it and with her help I managed to make peace with my past to start repairing the present of my life. I will keep coming back for more therapy with Karen. She has a gift .. an extraordinary gift, which I can't even begin to describe with words. Thank you Karen. Eve O. Altrincham

I found Karen to be a great therapist, I had several hypnotherapy sessions with her and she helped me with my anxiety so much. She has a very calm and warm presence and instantly puts you at ease. I would not hesitate in recommending Karen she is amazing. Jan R. Cheshire.

For more years than I can remember I've had an annoying habit of biting my nails throughout watching a film, either at home or in the cinema. The result was always the same 'Why did I do that', nails ravished and causing physical pain. I've tried many 'cures' but all fail eventually; some as soon as the film starts. Only coming across Hypnotherapy from other people, it was with an open mind I decided to give it a go. I arrived at my first session with Karen who immediately put me at rest explaining simply but effectively, the process and the safeguards of the therapy. We chatted around the subject for about 30 mins and then she asked if I was ready to continue. She started the session with confidence and a thorough understanding of my needs and requirements. After one session I felt no inclination to bite my nails and the acid test during a film, was this behaviour wasn't repeated. After 10 days I did get a tingle in the ends of my fingers but a subsequent session with Karen banished these symptoms. The results have been extremely successful and continue to be successful. For the first time in years I have finger nails I can be proud of, and do not feel the need to hide away my hands in public. I can recommend Karen highly and would gladly refer friends and family to her if the need arises. Ian Thompson. Hale
